She died Saturday, Nov. 27, 2010, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital.
Ruth Alice Young, daughter of Leonard and Ellen (Nilsson) Young, was born Aug. 15, 1927, in Aberdeen. She graduated from Central High School with the class of 1945. She moved to Minneapolis for employment.
She was united in marriage to Maynard Hanson on March 27, 1948, in Minneapolis, Minn. They made their home in Minneapolis until 1951, when they moved to Cohasset, where she was a stay-at-home mother. In 1962, they moved to Tower and, in 1964, to Hoyt Lakes. They returned to Cohasset in 1976. She then worked as a nurse's aide at the Homestead Nursing Home in Deer River. In 1987, they moved to Aberdeen to live near their son and his family.
Ruth enjoyed genealogy, crocheting and keeping up with and using technology and computers. Ruth loved her grandchildren and they loved their “cool” grandma, whom had a wonderful sense of humor. She did not miss a family function because of her great love of them. She traveled with the 65th Infantry Division Association of World War II Vets twice a year throughout the United States, and she also had the pleasure of traveling abroad to Europe. Ruth and Maynard spent 12 winters in Arkansas.
Ruth was a member and active in the United Methodist Church and the Minerva Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her husband, Maynard; one son, James (Jacqueline) Hanson of Aberdeen; two granddaughters: Jennifer Hanson of Charlotte, N.C., and Jessica (Brian Gamroth) Hanson of Aberdeen; one sister, Ethel (Arnie Wesemann) Borchard of Bellevue, Neb.; one sister-in-law, Inez (Vern) Kenyon of St. Paul, Minn.; one brother-in-law, Mike Fraher of Seattle, Wash.; a special cousin, Alene Hilsendeger; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Her parents; one son, John; three sisters: Mabel Sanders, Lillian Prouse and Edith Fraher; and one brother, Edwin Young, preceded her in death.
