Ruth Ann Hickenbottom

Ruth Ann Thoman Hickenbottom, born on February 23, 1939, to the late Lewis and Elsie Thoman, lived a life marked by quiet strength, unwavering devotion, and deep love for family and community. She passed away peacefully on January 4, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, faith, and warmth that touched all who knew her.

Ruth was the beloved wife of the late Alonzo Earl Hickenbottom, with whom she shared many years of love, laughter, and steadfast partnership. As a proud Navy wife, Ruth supported Alonzo through his service with grace and resilience, creating a home filled with love, no matter where life took them.

A faithful member of Summerville Presbyterian Church, Ruth's faith was the foundation of her life. Her church community was dear to her heart, and she served with compassion, offering comfort, prayers, and a ready hand to those in need.

Ruth had a passion for gardening, and her home was always adorned with the blooms of her labor; a testament to her nurturing spirit. She found joy in cooking for friends and family, always welcoming others with a warm meal and a generous heart. Her cats were her constant companions, and she adored them as cherished of her family.

Ruth will be remembered at the Villages of Summerville Memorial Service on February 1st, 2026, at 2:00pm.

She is survived by her children: John Hickenbottom and Steven Hickenbottom; her niece, Jane Diane Thoman; her lifelong friend and caregiver, Belinda Hardiman; as well as four beloved grandchildren and numerous beloved great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alonzo Hickenbottom; two children: Susan Hickenbottom and Matthew Hickenbottom; her siblings: Paul Thoman and Harry Thoman; as well as her parents.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a Local Animal Shelter or the Villages of Summerville Chaplain Fund.
