Ruth Ganley Obituary

Ruth Katherine Ganley (Hawse), 93, passed away peacefully on the morning of November 12, 2025, in Tucson, Arizona.



Born on July 20, 1932, in Frederick, Maryland, she was the eldest daughter of Esther Elizabeth Hawse (Gilliam) and James Paul Hawse.



Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Edward Hickman Ganley and daughter, Therese Marie Flannagan (Ganley).



Ruth was a devout Catholic, a career secretary, and loved keeping an inviting and comfortable home, playing canasta, keeping her hummingbirds and cardinals fed, travel, and raucous beach trips with her sister Nancy. She, along with her wit and humor, will be greatly missed.



She is survived by her daughter, Sharon E. Ganley Illinois, who assisted her greatly in her later stages of life. And a daughter, Katherine A. Ganley of Wyoming, three grandsons, Zachary J. Barksdale, Seth G. Cozzens, Samuel E. Cozzens, and one great-grandson, Isaac H. James Barksdale, of Wyoming.

Her sister Nancy C. Nootenboom (Hawse), brother-in-law, John L. Nootenboom of Arizona, her nephew John A. Nootenboom, his wife Robin and their daughters Shai and Jamie, of New Mexico.

Interment will be at St. Mary's Catholic Shrine cemetery in Barnesville, Maryland at a later date. Ruth Katherine Ganley (Hawes)
