RUTH ANN KOENIGS, age 87, of Waseca, passed away on November 27, 2025, at Mayo Clinic in Rochester.
Ruth was born on December 17, 1937, in Swaledale, Iowa, the daughter of Harold and Thelma (Alcorn) Bartlett. She graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1956 and went on to attend St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Rochester, where she earned her nursing degree in 1959. On June 18, 1960, Ruth was united in marriage to Roman Koenigs at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Meyer, Iowa. Together they began their married life in Stacyville, later living in Owatonna before settling in Waterloo, Iowa, where they raised their four children.
Ruth worked as a charge nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester before devoting herself to raising her family. As her children grew, she continued part-time nursing and later worked at a law firm in Waterloo until her retirement in 1993. Following retirement, Ruth and Roman relocated to Waseca, Minnesota, to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
Retirement allowed Ruth to fully embrace her many hobbies. She created beautiful stained glass pieces, painted, knitted, and crocheted, gifting her handmade treasures to family and friends who will cherish them always. She tended her flower gardens with care, enjoyed playing bridge, golfing, bowling, and was an avid reader. Ruth was known for her boundless energy, always finding joy in staying busy and living life to the fullest. She will be remembered as a generous, loving, and forgiving woman, whose kindness and devotion to her family and friends touched many lives.
Ruth is survived by her children: Kevin (Lynn) Koenigs of Mankato, Carmell (Jim) Scott of Albert Lea, Chris Koenigs of Albert Lea, and Susan Johnson (Richard Stoesz) of Northfield; eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Bonnie Koenigs, Deo (Joan) Koenigs, Jerry (Sandy) Koenigs, and Elaine Ramberg; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roman; her daughter-in-law, Deby Koenigs; brothers, Robert (Marlene) Bartlett and Bill (Vonna) Bartlett; and brothers-in-law, John Koenigs and Dan Ramberg.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held from 2:00 – 4:00 PM on Sunday, December 7, 2025, at the Third Street Chapel of Dennis-Steffel-Omtvedt Funeral and Cremation Service in Waseca. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Waseca.
