Ruth Koppen Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home on Mar. 27, 2025.
Ruth M. Koppen (nee Mietz) - age 95, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at Meadowbrook Manor in Naperville, IL, surrounded in love and prayer with her two daughters at her side.
Born on June 7, 1929, Ruth spent her entire life in Joliet, IL. She attended St. Peter's Lutheran School and graduated high school from Joliet Township. After WWII in 1948, Ruth met an Army Air Force man and her future husband Robert (Bob) Koppen. Bob and Ruth were married on May 6, 1950 and celebrated 69 years of marriage before Bob's passing in 2019.
Ruth was the loving and caring mother of Kathy Clark, Mark (Jody) Koppen, and Karen (Brian) Johnson; nurturing grandmother to Christina (David) Arroyo, Laura Koppen, Michael Johnson, Rebecca Johnson, and Natalie Koppen. She adored her three great-granddaughters Teresa, Gabriella, and Emily Arroyo.
Ruth is survived by her loving siblings Muriel McIntyre and Bob Mietz. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Linda Mietz, and devoted husband, Robert Koppen.
Ruth was a strong woman of faith and follower of Jesus Christ. She was very active at Our Savior Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the choir, Ladies Guild, LWML, and Quilters Club. She frequently took trips with her husband and three kids around the country. Ruth spent many years as a visitation volunteer at Sunny Hill Nursing Home. A creative woman, Ruth loved arranging flowers; sewing clothes for her children, grandchildren, and their dolls; and baking her family's amazing cookie recipes (at least twenty different kinds at Christmas!).
Visitation will be held at the Carlson Holmquist Sayles Funeral Home 2320 Black Road, Thursday, February 6th from 3:00 to 6:00 P.M. Lying in State at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 1910 Black Rd., Friday, February 7th from 9:00 A.M until time of services at 10:00 A.M. Interment will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please honor Ruth and her unending love for the Lord with your donations to Our Savior Lutheran Church or Lightways Hospice of Joliet.
