It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ruth Vinson Kortrey, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, who departed this life on Sunday, February 8th, 2026, at the age of 85 at her residence. Born in Wilkes County, Georgia, on December 23,, 1940, Ruth lived a life enriched by the love of her family, community involvement, and meaningful work.
Ruth was a resident of Washington, GA, where she built a cherished life surrounded by family and friends. She dedicated many years working as a teller for the City of Washington, showcasing her exceptional skill in bookkeeping, which she received from Augusta Technical College.
Family was the cornerstone of Ruth's life. She adored spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, often sharing heartfelt laughter and creating lasting memories. Ruth is survived by her son, Ken Davis, and his wife, Barbara Davis; her brother, Jerry Vinson, and wife, Kriss Vinson; granddaughter, Nina Davis Posey; granddaughter, Amber Davis Sullivan, and her husband, Roland; and her five great-grandchildren, Jacob Posey, Alex Posey, Gabe Sullivan, Vayda Sullivan, and Teddy Sullivan. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, along with her dear friend, John McTier.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Harry Norman Vinson and Anna Lou Chastain Vinson, her beloved spouse, William John Kortrey, and her brothers, Alvin Vinson and Gene Vinson.
A service to celebrate Ruth's life will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the Hopkins Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be an hour prior to the service. Rev. Toby Rowell will officiate, with burial following in Resthaven Cemetery in Washington. Pallbearers will include Roland Sullivan, Bobby Floyd, Phillip Gunby, Jacob Posey, Alex Posey, and Jack Thurmond.
Ruth's passion for animals and her community shone brightly, and in lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the Washington Wilkes Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 121, Washington, GA 30673, in her honor.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Hopkins Funeral Home, Washington, Georgia.
