RUTH EVELYN PHILLIPS LEDBETTER
Ruth Ledbetter, age 90, passed away August 31, 2024, at Lexington Medical Center in West Columbia, SC.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue with Bro. Jimmy Dyer and Lisa Ledbetter Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at the Henderson City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Crook Avenue 5:00 PM until 7:30 PM, Monday, and beginning at 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM service time on Tuesday.
She was born May 26, 1934, in Henderson, and raised in the Mifflin Community, the daughter of the late Lester and Dona Phillips. She attended public schools in Chester County and graduated from Chester County High School in 1952. She attended West Tennessee Business College in Jackson, TN after graduation, she worked for First State Bank as a bank teller for seventeen years.
In 1958, she married Arvy King Ledbetter. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Henderson. She was a member of the Pentagon Club, Ingleside Club and various bridge clubs. She enjoyed gardening and was very passionate of roses. She excelled in creating a beautiful home and was fond of seasonal decorations. She loved basketball, a fan of the Memphis Grizzlies.
Her friendships were a special aspect in her life. From phone call chats to sharing a cup of coffee and hosting special gatherings. Up until the end, she maintained kindness, love of family and expressed gratitude for her long life.
She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. We will miss her love of red lipstick and nails and most of all her genuine smile and laughter.
She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Johnson (Greg); two grandsons, Payton Johnson (Olivia) and Grayson Johnson (Hannah), one great grandson, Sawyer Johnson, all of Columbia, SC.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a husband, Arvy King Ledbetter, in 2019, a brother, Bobby Phillips, and a granddaughter, Kayla Johnson.
