Ruth P. McHugh

Ruth P. (Fontaine) McHugh 90, of Franklin, died peacefully on May 21, 2015, at Milford Regional Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of Joseph McHugh for 67 years. Born on July 5, 1924, Ruth was the youngest daughter of the late Pierre and Mary (Remillard) Fontaine. She was raised and educated in Lowell, Mass. She was a bookkeeper for McQuaid's Department Store before marrying her husband in 1948. After her children were born Ruth became a full time homemaker raising her three children in Franklin where she lived for the past 56 years. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great grandmother. She treasured the time she spent with her family and her greatest pleasure were times shared with her little ones. Ruth and her husband enjoyed traveling around the world. They shared a passion for art, nature and the Boston Red Sox. She was also a talented seamstress, once making uniforms for the whole Franklin High School cheerleading squad and was a member of St. Mary's Church, Franklin. Ruth is survived by her husband, Joseph and her children; Maureen Consigli and her husband Joseph of Northbridge, Ruthann McHugh of Franklin and Peter M. McHugh of Uxbridge, her sister Geraldine Ward of Norwood and her grandchildren; Jennifer Portalatin and her husband Jim, Joseph Consigli and his wife Tricia, Alison Archibald, Michael Archibald and Peter McHugh Jr. Also 8 great grandchildren; Joseph, Jayden and Gabrielle Consigli, Jaxon and Jared Archibald, Noah and Sophie Portalatin, and Camden D'Souza. Ruth was the sister of the late Laura Beckwith, Irene Ogg, Claire LaFontaine, Wilford, Leo and Arthur Fontaine. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral Mass on Wednesday May 27 at 12:00PM at St. Mary's Church, 1 Church Square, Franklin. Interment will follow at the parish cemetery. Calling hours at the Charles F. Oteri and Son Franklin Funeral Home, 33 Cottage Street, Franklin are Wednesday from 9:30 - 11:30 prior to the funeral mass.
