Ruth McMahon

Ruth McMahon, age 91, of the Landing at Laurel Lake, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2026.

Born on October 10, 1934 in Albany, NY, she was a daughter of the late Alfred and Gertrude Newman. She was a hard-working mother and spent many years working as a caregiver and educator in special education.

Ruth was a big sports fan. She loved her grandchildren and was very interested in her great grandchildren's involvement in sports.

In her more recent years, she enjoyed the activities at the Landing, especially playing Bingo and playing cards.

Ruth is survived by her children, Kathy Phillips (Joe), Larry McMahon (Jean), and Lorrie McMahon, her grandchildren, Sean McMahon (Stacy), Kelly O'Callaghan (Rory), Holly LePrevost (Ryan), Shannon McMahon, Quinn Johnson, Justin Lefebvre (Blerina), Andrew McMahon (Heather), Michel LeFebrve (Mackenzie) and Kevin Johnson. She also leaves her great grandchildren, Kelsey, Kyle, Layla, Dez, Emmett, Connor, Hana Ruth, and Remy, her siblings, Joe Newman and Linda Slonski, and many nieces and nephews.

Ruth was predeceased by her son Billy McMahon in 2019, her brother Al Newman and her great nephew Brodie Slonski.

Visitation at the Dery Funeral Home will be Saturday, March 28, 2026 from 9:30-10:30 AM. A Liturgy of Christian Burial follow beginning at 11AM at St. Charles Church. Burial will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Ruth's memory may be made payable to "Brodie SLONSKI Memorial Scholarship fund" and/ or "Boys and Girls Club of Pittsfield" in care of the Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford St. Pittsfield, MA 01201
