Ruth Medley Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services - Rocky Mount on Feb. 8, 2026.
Rocky Mount – Ruth Catherine Finnegan Medley, age 82, passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2026. Born in Wilson County, NC on January 13, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Wilber Finnegan and Sally Ella Stancil Radcliffe. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Wesley Medley.

A woman of great faith, Ruth was a long-time member of Englewood Assembly of God Church. For many years up until just recently, she actively participated with the churches vacation bible study and the Sunday breakfast committee. A talented automotive upholsterer, Ruth worked out of her home for many years serving her customers. In her spare time, she especially enjoyed spending her time with her family and friends and was active member of Planet Fitness, three days a week, right up until the time her health began to decline. A devoted and loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and dear friend to many, Ruth will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

Ruth is survived by her daughter, Lorie Dawne Cruickshank (William "Bill"); her son, Major Edward "Ed" Lee (Amy); her grandchildren, Gregory "Greg" Bottoms (Christina) and Matthew "Matt" Bottoms (Nikki); her great granddaughters, Ashlyn Bottoms, Alice Bottoms, and Aubrey Bottoms; and several extended family members and dearest friends.

A Celebration of Life Service to celebrate Ruth's life will be held on Sunday, February 15, 2026, at 2:00 PM in the Englewood Assembly of God, 2181 S Halifax Road, Rocky Mount, NC 27803 with Rev. Gerry Blood officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM prior to the service at Englewood Assembly of God. A Private Family Graveside Service will be held at a later date.
