Ruth Thelma Montgomery, affectionately known as “Doll” was born on October 28, 1937 in Greeleyville, SC. Our Heavenly Father in His infinite wisdom quietly summoned her to an eternal rest after a natural decline in health on January 7, 2025.
Reared with a Christian foundation, the second daughter of the Late Henry B. and Leatha Simon Montgomery was brought up in the Pine Grove AME Church of Greeleyville, SC where she accepted Christ as Lord and Savior. In South Carolina, Doll was educated within the public schools of Williamsburg County and migrated to Troy, New York at an early age to work and establish an independent living. Perfectly aligned with Doll’s nurturing, warm and friendly spirit, she diligently cared for others as a private, domestic employee within the local area of Troy. She also worked at Morgan Linen, Roxy Dry Cleaners and the YMCA, retiring in 1989 from Van Rensselaer Manor as a Nurse’s Aide after 10 years of service.
Preceding her in death were three siblings, Lizzie (James) Benbow, Henry Jr. (Deloris) Montgomery & Joe Montgomery; and, a grandson, SMSgt John (Viktoria) Woods, Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memories three loving and devoted daughters: Nancy (Matthew) Canty of Manning, SC, Cindy Montgomery & Geraldine Montgomery, both of Troy, NY; seven siblings: Carrie Montgomery of Bronx, NY, January (Peggy) Montgomery of Wake Forest, NC, Robert Montgomery of Minneapolis, MN, James Montgomery of Decatur, AL, Margie Dawkins, Lee Ernest (Lessie) Montgomery, both of Greeleyville, SC & Shirley (Adger) Waiters of Blythewood, SC; five grandchildren: Andrea Woods of Lake City, SC, Dana (Heather) Jackson of Troy, NY, Adrean (Louis) Kennedy of Charlotte, NC, Iziah McCowan & Dequadra Rhames, both of Troy, NY; four great-grandchildren: Sasha Woods, Jaden Woods both of Blythewood, SC, Ava Kennedy of Charlotte, NC & Lennox McCowan of Troy, NY; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and acquaintances.
