Ruth Elaine Mortier was born on August 22, 1938, in Ivanhoe, MN, to Walter and Florence (Christensen) Marczak. She was baptized and confirmed at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Ivanhoe, MN. Ruth graduated from Ivanhoe high school in 1956. Following her graduation, she attended the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, MN, for a year before moving to Honolulu, HI, for two years. After returning to Minnesota, she worked at a bank in Ivanhoe. She met Joseph "Joe" Mortier, and they were married in Ivanhoe on February 21, 1966. The couple made their home and raised their family just outside of Marshall. Ruth enjoyed reading, gardening, drawing, camping, travel, and spending time with her grandchildren. She was also involved in a local sorority and the Catholic Daughters of America.
Ruth died peacefully at the Prairie Home Hospice McLaughlin House surrounded by family on March 5, 2025.
She is survived by her sons C.J. (Julie) Mortier of Marshall and Todd (Carlene Uribes) Mortier of Minnetrista, and daughter Terri (Scott) Williams of Russell; grandchildren Megan, Dustin, and Casey Williams, Alison and Jenna Mortier, and Jaime and Bethanie Uribes; her siblings: sister Rosemary "Tiny" Peltier, and brothers David and John Marczak; as well as nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Joe Mortier, an unborn child, parents Walter and Florence Marczak, brothers Daniel and Roger Marczak, and sisters Marjorie Theisen, Marilyn Halvorson, and Vivian Ritchie.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of Heritage Pointe, Boulder Creek, and Prairie Home Hospice for the care they provided over the years.
