Ruth Gertrude (Williams) Putnam, 71, died Monday June 23, 2025, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH. Ruth was born on March 22, 1954, in Brattleboro, VT, to the late Allen Williams and Barbara (Leary) Blow.
Ruth was a lifelong resident of the area, graduating from Brattleboro Union High School in 1973. Many will fondly remember Ruth from her years spent working at Guilford Central School and Vernon Elementary School. She also worked as a daycare provider, a Switchboard Operator at the Brattleboro Retreat, New England Telephone/Nynex as a Telephone Operator, at Margolin Handbags factory, and at her father's gas station as well.
When not working Ruth enjoyed being with her cats, knitting, crocheting, painting, cooking (especially fried green tomatoes), bingo, trips to Swanzey Lake with her family and visiting her friends. Ruth was a Lifetime Member of the VFW Carl M Dessaint post 1034. In addition to her parents, Ruth was predeceased by her sister Valerie Williams in 2001 and her sister Vickie Williams in 2016. Ruth is survived and will be dearly missed by her ex-husband and lifelong friend Robert Putnam Sr of Guilford, VT, her son Robert Putnam Jr. of Brattleboro, VT, her son Steven Putnam of Guilford, her sister Verlene LaShay of Guilford, VT and her sister Nonie Fournier of Dummerston, VT. Ruth is also survived by four nephews and a niece. Burial for Ruth will be private. Phaneuf Funeral Home and Crematorium have been entrusted with arrangements.
