Ruth Joy Ann Reid, 69, of Iowa City, Iowa, passed away on February 7, 2026, at Iowa City Rehabilitation Hospice. Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids is assisting the family.
Joy was born September 15, 1956, in Danville, Illinois, to William West and Mildred West (Bowman), both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her siblings: Virgil Hicks, Rusty Olivero (West), Betty Hicks, and William Hicks.
She is survived by her son, Christopher Reid, and his wife, Hannah Born; her grandchildren, Adelyn Reid and Greysyn Reid; her niece, Kay Mockvee; and her former husband, Kent Reid.
Joy earned a doctorate in Education and devoted her career to helping students, serving as a principal in Red Oak, Iowa, working at Four Oaks in Cedar Rapids as an SDI, and teaching behavioral students in the Muscatine school district.
Joy loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, as well as music, movies, reading, traveling, and her dogs. Her greatest pride was raising her son, who lovingly cared for her for the past 20 years. Joy will be remembered for her kindness, dignity, and respect for others, and she will be deeply missed.
