Ruth (Elaine) Shoup, 96, a resident of Stuart, Florida and former resident of Chicago, Illinois passed away Monday, July 29, 2024, after a brief illness.
Survivors include her daughter, Katherine R.Strout of Marshall, TX; a step-daughter, Roberta K. Smith of Castile, NY; along with grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was the daughter of the late Gus and June Ehrhart. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Briard Strout; her second husband, Cletis Shoup and her son, Steven Strout.
Elaine worked for many years at the Seacoast Bank in Stuart Florida as a teller and later as the vault tender. After her retirement from the bank, she volunteered in many different roles at her beloved church, Redeemer Lutheran in Stuart, where she was a long-time member. Elaine was a loving and kind person. She enjoyed spending time with family, gardening, playing golf and sewing (especially making quilted wall hangings and small quilts)and singing in the church choir. Elaine lived at Alto Assisted Living for the last several years where she was known as the "Social Butterfly", she would always greet new clients and show them around. She was also deemed the honorary event planner at Alto. She was certainly one of a kind and she will be dearly missed by all.
Calling hours will be held at Forest Hills Memorial Chapel, 2001 Southwest Murphy Rd, Palm City Florida, Saturday, August 3, 2024 from 11:00 am – 12:00pm, a funeral service immediately following, officiated by Pastor John Bartz.
