Santa Clara, Ca,-Ruth Anderson South passed away February 21, 2024 in San Jose at the age of 85. Ruth was born October 2, 1938 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Edna Jean Rigby and Glenn Christensen Anderson. "Ruthie" spent most of her childhood living at 69 D Street, attended Lowell Elementary School, and graduated from West High. She spoke often of her fond memories and experiences growing up on the Avenues with her sisters and friends. She was the youngest of five daughters and loved her family dearly.

Ruth moved to California as a young woman and spent two summers working in Lake Tahoe. She fell in love with her "favorite place on earth" and tried to visit Lake Tahoe often throughout her life. She eventually settled down in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Ruth met Kent South at the Stanford Ward in Palo Alto Ca. The two were married on July 31, 1964 by Le Grand Richards in the Salt Lake City Temple. Ruth and Kent were devoted to one another, and were married for 55 years until Kent's passing in 2020.

"Rooster", a cherished nickname, loved holidays, parades, music, and travel with friends. She was a master at flower arranging, gift wrapping and personal shopping and willingly assisted others with these talents. It brought her much joy. Anyone who met Ruth was welcomed and seen by her, and she went out of her way to make them feel like a part of the family. She was a fabulous hostess with unrivaled Thanksgiving dinners and Christmas celebrations.

Ruth was a loving wife, mother, grandma, and sister. She is survived by her children Brooke Day (Neil), Rich South (Mimi), three grandchildren Olivia South, Jack Day, Gabriella South, and sister Marjory Anderson. She is missed by all of us who loved her.

Services will be held April 6 th , at 1:00 at the Larkin Mortuary
