Ruth Stambaugh Obituary

Ruth Faulk Stambaugh, formerly of York, PA, and Pittsburgh, PA, died on April 11, 2025, at Friendship Village of South Hills. Ruth was the beloved wife of Robert J. Stambaugh Jr. and daughter of Mae and Thomas Faulk, all of whom preceded her in death. She was a graduate of Dormont High School and Carnegie Institute of Technology (Carnegie Mellon University), where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta. Following graduation, she was employed by Alcoa and then the National Tube division of US Steel Corp. She lived 67 years in Pittsburgh and 30 in York, PA. Ruth was a member of both Southminster Presbyterian Church in MT. Lebanon and First Presbyterian Church of York, where she was also a deaconess. Throughout her life she was a Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader, a member of AAUW and a member of the York Hospital Auxiliary. She was a longtime volunteer at Memorial Library of York, as well as being a charter member of the York White Rose chapter of the Embroiderers' Guild of America. Ruth loved to travel with her family, both in the U.S. and internationally. She would plan her trips well in advance. She enjoyed reading and gardening and instilled a love of both in her children. Throughout her life she did various forms of needlework, even into her 90s. She was a kind and generous woman who always tried to help those around her. Ruth is survived by her loving children, Martha Stambaugh of Pittsburgh and James Stambaugh of Newtown Square, PA, who will miss her dearly. She was a mother to be proud of. A small private memorial service will be held in Pittsburgh. The burial will be in York. Those who wish to remember Ruth may make donations to the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank or Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh.
