Ruth Elliott Terry

1922 - 2022

Ruth Elliott Terry, 100 years old, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on July 27, 2022.
She finally joins her beloved Coleman and her parents, Adrine and Bruce Elliott, along with other family and friends she loved and had talked about so much the past year.
Ruth was born July 7, 1922, in Pittsylvania County, VA., and had lived most of her life in the Mount Hermon community. She and her husband, Samuel Coleman Terry, Jr., were married on December 20, 1946, and enjoyed 71 wonderful years together. She was an active member of Mount Hermon Baptist Church until her health declined.
Surviving are her three children, Sandra T. Diemer and husband John; Samuel C. Terry, III, and wife Mary Anne; and Elliott P. Terry. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Stephanie Harper, Scott Terry and wife Whitney, Jacob Terry, and Matthew Terry, one great-grandson; Kerr Terry, a great-granddaughter, Lorell Terry, a special nephew, Rev. Terry Bryant, and his wife Linda. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her grandson, Cole Terry, and her brother, Benton Elliott.
Ruth was a graduate of Averett College and was employed as a secretary in the Dan River Mills office for a number of years, but her main focus was being a loving and devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. She loved gardening, crocheting, challenging word searches and jigsaw puzzles. Ruth was an excellent cook and always looked forward to preparing holiday meals for family gatherings. She will be greatly missed!
To honor Ruth's wishes, there will be a private family service at a later date. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to friends and neighbors for their visits, love, and prayers over the years.
