Ruth B. Tessler, long-time resident of Kingston, a beacon of loving kindness and gentle creativity, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2025, in
Greenville, South Carolina. Born on October 22, 1935, in Teaneck, New Jersey, Ruth's life was a tapestry of cherished moments and enduring relationships. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend who left an indelible mark on the hearts of those she touched.
Ruth's early years in Teaneck were filled with the warmth of her parents, Carl and Emma Bommerer, both of whom predeceased her. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Alex Tessler, and her cherished partner, Thomas Hart. Her legacy continued to flourish through her loving family, including her daughter Heidi Rosborough and her husband Joe, her son Charles Gritman, and her adored grandchildren Dylan Gritman and his wife Kali, Devin Gritman and his wife Jacquelyn, Dustin Gritman, and Megan Rosborough and her husband Mark. Ruth's joy multiplied with the arrival of several great-grandchildren, each of whom brought a sparkle to her eye and a smile to her face. Her fur baby, Brandy, also held a special place in her heart. Ruth is also survived by her former husband, Charles D Gritman Jr, and his wife Patricia.
Ruth's professional journey as an Administrative Assistant to the Commissioner of Highways was marked by her exceptional organizational skills and her unwavering dedication to her work. Her colleagues respected her for her dependability and her ability to bring a sense of calm to even the most hectic days.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Ruth was an avid quilter, her hands weaving not just fabric but also stories and memories into each piece she created. Her love for travel took her on many adventures, each destination leaving its own unique stitch in the quilt of her life. Ruth's penchant for shopping on QVC was more than a pastime; it was a way she connected with the world and indulged in her love for the new and the beautiful.
Ruth's life was a testament to the virtues of love, gentleness, and creativity. She approached every day with a heart full of love, treating everyone she met with a gentle kindness that was as natural to her as breathing. Her creative spirit found expression in every quilt she crafted, every journey she embarked upon, and in the way she lived her life.
