Ruth S. Wakeman

WAKEMAN Ruth Scott Wakeman, formerly of Stratford Connecticut died in Syracuse N.Y on September 8th, 2010. She was born in Bridgeport on April 19th 1920 the daughter of the late Walter and Katherine (Murray) Scott. Ruth's first Husband, Lieutenant William J. Booth was killed in action during World War II. She is also predeceased by her husband Ward Bulkeley Wakeman of Fairfield. She was a graduate of Central High School and the University of Connecticut and completed her post graduate degrees at the University of Bridgeport and Columbia University. Ruth (Scottie) Wakeman was a teacher and reading consultant in the Fairfield Public Schools for 21 years. She is survived by Carolyn Prevatt and her husband Robert of Wilmington, N.C., Scott Wakeman and his wife Cynthia of Manlius, N.Y. and Kathryn Ruef and her husband Don of Portland Ct. Kathryn followed in her mother's footsteps, teaching in the Middletown schools for many years. Ruth is also survived by her grandchildren Scott and Eric Benko, Elizabeth and Christopher Prevatt, and Kay, Ross, and Gregory Wakeman. A service will take place Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at 10 AM in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 S Benson Rd., Fairfield., interment will follow at Lawncroft Cemetery, Fairfield. Friends may call on Monday, September 13, 2010 from 4 – 8 PM in the funeral home.
