Ruth Weaver Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Dewald Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc. on Mar. 2, 2026.
Ruth Weaver, 94, a resident of the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community, joined the Lord on Saturday, February 28, 2026, after passing away from natural causes. Ruth was born on August 31, 1931 to J. Arthur and Wilda Paxson in Fairfield, PA. She married Allen Dale Weaver in 1952 and had 4 children and 3 grandchildren. She was a lifetime resident of southern Lancaster County. Ruth Graduated from Drumore High School and was a member of the inaugural 1947 class from Solanco High School. She was a lifetime Member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and was in the church choir, taught Sunday School, and acted as treasurer. For a short time in the early 1970's she and Allen juggled full time government jobs, raised 4 children, and ran a service station and camper sales in Wakefield, where they lived for 30 years.

Ruth retired from Aberdeen Proving Ground in 1988, after working as a civilian budget analyst for the US Army, where she won numerous employee awards for her work. She enjoyed weekends, holidays and then significant time in retirement at their cabin, relaxing with friends in the woods near Gettysburg, PA. She enjoyed vacations spent camping at state parks all over the northeast and traveling to Ashe County, NC, before purchasing the cabin. She and Allen travelled across the country twice after retirement in their RV. During the trips, she kept a running diary of what they saw, what they ate, how much they spent for meals and the hometowns of new friends they made along the way. She enjoyed time with her grandchildren immensely and attended many of Ashleigh's volleyball games. She also enjoyed playing the piano, especially The Tennessee Waltz and preparing Sunday dinner for her family and friends. She enjoyed playing pinochle, dominoes, and especially bingo, where she racked up a lot of prizes. She was outgoing, friendly and always happy to have friends and family visit her at QPRC.

She is survived by her daughter, Kim Overly of Lancaster, son, Kirk and Christine Weaver of Ewing, NJ; son, Brad Weaver and Dawn Reynolds of Quarryville; granddaughter, Ashleigh Overly Webb and Corum Webb of Nashville, TN; granddaughter, Casey Weaver of Spring Hill, TN, and grandson, Connor Weaver, of Norristown, PA. Ruth was predeceased by her brother, Bill Paxson, her husband Allen Weaver, a son, Scott Weaver, and son-in-law, Roy Overly.

Ruth and Allen were fortunate enough to have many friends in Lancaster County, near Gettysburg, and in North Carolina. Ruth was an active member of the Solanco Farm Women and the Red Hat society. She and her friends Patsy Eller, Judy Bergdoll, and Joanne Roth, affectionately known as the YaYa's, enjoyed each other's company locally as well as on vacations to Canada, Europe, and the US. She spent the last 10 years at QPRC where she was adored by many of the residents and staff.

A Funeral Service will take place at Dewald Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., 227 W. 4th St., Quarryville, PA on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at 12 noon with Pastor Blake Deibler officiating. There will be a viewing from 11-12:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery, Peach Bottom.
