Ruth "Mickie" Hatley Wentz

Ruth Hatley Wentz, 96, known as "Mickie" to the many who loved her, passed away peacefully at her home Thursday, Jan. 19, 2023, surrounded by family.

The daughter of Gaston and Sarah Hatley, Ruth was born in Stanly County, Oct. 26, 1926. In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Wentz; and siblings Beatrice Tucker, Lamer Reynolds, Leroy Hatley and J.D. Hatley.

Ruth, like the Biblical Ruth, was hard working, kind, and faithful. She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, reading, and sharing time with friends and family. She was especially happy in her role as grandmother and great-grandmother.

Left to cherish the memory of this sweet, gentle, and wise woman are her daughters, Pat Sinclair (Harold), and Nancy Hale (David); grandchildren, Greg Sinclair (Lissa), and Jennifer Scercy (Kelly); great-grandchildren, Kaylee Ruth and Kayden Scercy, Zaim and Inir Sinclair, Bryan, Kasey, and Jazmyne Scercy and Henry Mooney; as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express a special thank you to extended family member and friend, Charlotte Baxter, for the many days of unselfish assistance and social companionship she provided to Mickie and for the wise advice, compassion and support she has provided for the entire family over the past few years.

A service for Ruth will be held Monday, Jan. 23, at 2 p.m., at Broadus Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. Rodney Quesenberry. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 1:15 p.m. Burial will follow at West Concord Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Broadus Baptist Church, 59 Green St., Concord, NC 28027 or to the Hospice of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
