Oldtown, MD- Ruth Ann Whorton, 86, of Oldtown, MD, passed away on Friday, March 7, 2025 at Frye Medical Center, Hickory, NC.
Born May 11, 1938 in Little Orleans, MD, Ms. Whorton was the daughter of the late John Richard McDonald and Berti Louise McDonald. She was also preceded in death by her husband: Charles Vernon Whorton; her brother: Harry McDonald and wife, Barbara; her sister: Almeeta Snyder and husband, Stanley; and her grandson: Wayne Joy. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Ruth was a graduate of Flintstone High School, attended Frostburg State University, worked at London Fog for 35 years until they closed, and retired from Rayloc. She was a member of Our Lady of the Mountains Parish. She never met a stranger and enjoyed conversing with everyone. Ruth liked to draw and color. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Ruth is survived by her son: Mr. John Whorton and wife, Hilda; her daughter: Dr. Felicia Cain and husband, Rodney; her grandchildren: Jessica Cain and significant other, Derek Melton; Jennifer Ternent and significant other, Adam Whitacre; Buck Whorton and wife, Kristin; and Keith Joy; her great-grandchildren: Hailey, Lindsey, Kolton, Levi, Jesse, and Everleigh; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, MD, on Thursday, March 13, 2025, from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M., and from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
A funeral service will be conducted at the Our Lady of the Mountain Parish Church of St. Patrick on Friday, March 14, 2025, at 10:00 A.M.
Interment will be in Glendale Cemetery.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to staff at Preston Robert Tisch Brain Cancer Center, Durham, NC, and Patti Sheetz for all the care and compassion given.
