Ruven Alvarez

1950 - 2016

Ruven Arturo Alvarez, a humble and kindhearted man, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Sunday, Aug. 21, 2016. Service: A remembrance service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31, at Guardian Funeral Home in Fort Worth. Viewing: 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, at Guardian Funeral Home. Ruven was born on Nov. 16, 1950, in Detroit, Mich. His family moved to Fort Worth when he was a young boy, and he remained a Fort Worth resident until his death. Ruven's passion was driving a big rig. He loved the open road and driving all over the country. In addition to driving a big rig, Ruven loved oldies, playing tunes on his harmonica and keyboard, and singing. For many years, his hobby was woodworking, and he created shelves and rocking chairs that he gave as gifts and also sold. The money he made from these sales went to charity and to provide Christmas gifts for his family. Ruven was a generous man, willing to give help to anyone. He had a deep compassion for children, donating monthly to his favorite charities, Feed the Children and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Ruven was preceded in death by his parents, Vidal and Petra Alvarez, and one sister, Juanita Rios. Survivors: His children Ruben, Recilda, Rachel and Joseph; grandchildren, Samantha, Alexandra, Mary, Anthony, Nathaniel, Ruben III, Reyna, Nikolas and Aurelia; his brothers, Billy and Heriberto; his sisters, Martha, Maria, Oralia and Carolyn; and numerous nieces and nephews.
