Ryan David Brumbaugh, 42, of Bartlesville, lost his battle with cancer on September 14, 2024, after five and a half years, but he won the war and is in heaven with Christ and his grandparents who he dearly loved.
Ryan was born on November 21, 1981, in Bartlesville, OK, the only child of David and Alane Brumbaugh. Ryan graduated from Bartlesville High School in May 2000 as a National Merit Scholar. After high school, he earned his Bachelor's in Language Arts Education from the University of Oklahoma in May 2008. Ryan went on to further his education at Oklahoma City Community College with an Associate's in Computer Science in May 2014 and at University of Central Oklahoma with a Master's in Special Education with Honors in December 2021.
Ryan never married but instead poured himself into teaching. He was a special ed teacher for the Oklahoma City schools, last teaching at Taft Middle School. He enjoyed his time interacting and working with his students.
In his childhood years, Ryan was active in the Cherokee Area Council #469 Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, earning the rank of Eagle Scout on May 29, 1998. He served in many leadership roles plus earned his Vigil Honor in the Order of the Arrow where he served as the Osage Hills Section Chief at one time. He was also a scoutmaster in the Oklahoma City area for a short time.
Ryan excelled in school, receiving many awards. He served on Math Counts teams for Wesleyan Christian School in 1995 and 1996 and was a finalist on the state team for the national competition in 1996. He was also active in science fair projects, earning high honors, and participating at the International Science Fair, receiving awards for a team science fair project with Jon Turner. He enjoyed reading and going to Build a Bear, creating a menagerie of stuffed animals. He was fond of cats, growing up with Melody, which he chose from the pet store. He also enjoyed playing board and card games with friends in Oklahoma City. He loved watching old Walt Disney Movies.
Ryan will be missed by those left behind. He encouraged his mom with texts saying he was 100% at peace with God's plan for his life, and there was no reason to be afraid.
Ryan is survived by his parents, David Lynn and Alane Kay (Coxen) Brumbaugh; aunt, Andra Coxen (Daniel) Johnson; uncles, Don (Melissa) Coxen and Ed (Sue) Brumbaugh; cousins, Brian Coxen and Dylan Coxen; great-aunts, Alice Caton and Lela Prine; and many friends, colleagues and students. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Edgar Allen Brumbaugh Sr. and Joan Bernice (Mease) Brumbaugh; maternal grandparents, Alan Laverne Coxen and Donna Jean (Dyck) Coxen; and uncles, Dale Eugene Brumbaugh and Tom Rau.
