Ryan Sebelius passed away March 7 in the Sanford palliative care unit from undiagnosed pancreatic cancer. He was born on July 30, 1981 in Fargo ND to Steven and Paula (Messner) Sebelius. The family lived in Valley City at the time and moved to Moorhead in 1984. Because of a difficult birth, Ryan received special education services from the Moorhead schools, and with their assistance, thrived and enjoyed his school years. He won a first-place ribbon for an inventor’s fair, earned a Spuds letter for music and, enjoyed playing trombone in the school band.
After high school graduation Ryan started to receive services from CCRI in Moorhead, a wonderful organization which works with clients to make them as independent as possible. They got him a job at the Hornbacher’s grocery store in downtown Moorhead. Over time, he moved from group homes to a shared apartment, and finally his own apartment which was his dream come true. Besides all the activities with CCRI, he remained close to his family. Sunday afternoons in the summer meant jumping in the van and heading for a lakeshore picnic or walking the dogs through a park. Winter was for plays, concerts, or homemade pizza.
He is survived by his parents and younger brother Evan (Moorhead). Services to be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, Moorhead, Friday March 14 at 11:00, visitation one hour before.
