The other night as we were about to turn off the light and turn in my wife said: 'Oh, I suppose you heard that Ryuichi Sakamoto has died?" No, I hadn't - and I immediately felt such a sense of loss. I reflected on it and calculated that he'd been a part of my musical life for over 35 years, or half of his. From his (early) work with David Sylvian through to his catalogue of OST work he was always there, and thanks to those recordings he always will be for me. It's times like these as you reach a certain age that you reflect on your own mortality, and it's such a sobering thought as those you've held so dear from afar leave you behind. Rest now my Man, with the deepest respect and thanks for what you've left me with...
