Richard Gillen Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Rutherford-Corbin Funeral Home - Worthington on Nov. 24, 2025.
Richard (Dick) Louis Gillen, 96 years of age, passed peacefully at Worthington Christian Village on Sunday, November 23, 2025. Dick was born September 22, 1929 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Robert & Catherine Gillen. He was the youngest of four children who preceded him in death.

Also preceded in death by his son Michael and lovely wife, Louise Geneva Dickey (Gillen), who passed November 8th, 2009 after a long battle with Alzheimer's. He took wonderful care of her until the disease finally took her. She was the love of his life and he was such an inspiration to others of unconditional love.

Dick retired from Nationwide Insurance in 1993. He was an active member of the Indianola Church of Christ for many decades where he was known to be a kind and generous man. He was a very talented painter and enjoyed building things. Watercolors were his favorite pictures to paint. He was a great story teller of his youth.

Dick served two years to his country in the U.S. Army stationed in Korea. He loved the Lord and doing things for others. He liked to dress up for church in one of his sharp suit jackets and always had a smile on his face. He will be greatly missed but we are rejoicing that he is with Jesus now and his beautiful bride.

Dick leaves behind to cherish his memory his daughter, Tina Louise Gillen, adopted family Paul and Cindy Fenstermaker and grandchildren Joshua Fenstermaker and Emily Fenstermaker.

A memorial will be held at Rutherford Corbin Funeral Home located at: 515 High St. Worthington Ohio 43085, Saturday January 3rd, 2026. Pastor Mike Richardson will be officiating. Calling hours start at 10 a.m. with a memorial at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Indianola Church 2141 Indianola Ave. Columbus, Ohio 43201.
