It is with great sadness and much love that the family of Salli (Phayre) Donahue announces her peaceful passing at the age of 76. She left on September 30, surrounded by those who loved her.
Salli will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 54 years, Jim; her children: Joanne (Elias), Kelly, and Jimmy (Danielle); her grandchildren: Kaya, Amelia, Lily, and Charlie; and one great-grandchild, Alice. She was preceded in death by her father Thomas and her mother Helen. She is survived and missed by her brother Thomas (Shirley) and her sister Donna (Bob).
A native of Drexel Hill, Salli’s infectious laughter could light up any room. She was a proud graduate of Upper Darby High School. After graduating from Pierce College, she began her working life at G.E. where she developed friendships that would shape her life in many beautiful ways. It was through these connections that she crossed paths with the love of her life, Jim, with whom she shared a lifetime of joy, humor, and love. Together, they raised their children in the same town and schools in which Salli had spent her childhood.
After working at G.E. and later Haverford Hospital, Salli gave nearly two decades of dedicated work at the News of Delaware County, where she was known affectionately as “Salli Sunshine”. In 1998 she bid farewell to her career and, alongside Jim, set out for their new home in Oxford, PA. They became cherished members of their new community. Known for their warmth and hospitality. Jim and Salli enjoyed many wonderful years of retirement, developing a passion for travel. Along with trips to Europe and Africa, they crisscrossed the United States and Canada. One of her fondest memories was the family trip to Italy, where she soaked in the culture, cuisine, and the time spent with her loved ones. Her final trip was to Ireland in 2015.
Family and friends will be received at The Donohue Funeral Home 8401 West Chester Pike Upper Darby, PA on Tuesday, October 10 from 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday, October 11 from 10:00 -11:00am with a life Celebration service to follow at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a tribute donation in Salli's name to: Alzheimer's research at alz.org.
