Sally Alires
1940 - 2025
Sally Alires, a devoted, cherished, loving Wife, Mama, Nani, Sister, Auntie, and Friend, passed away peacefully in her residence surrounded by her family on Saturday November 15, 2025, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was 85 years of age.
Sally was born September 13, 1940, to the late Jesus and Albina Chavez. Following her education in Belen she began her lifelong loved career serving children. First, as a caretaker in Belen for over a decade, followed by serving the Albuquerque Public Schools through to her retirement in 2007. Her nurturing fun loving spirit, steadfast support, and boundless love of children will forever live on in the hearts of all the children she served. The many children she served never failed to let her know how remarkable she was through the numerus gifts, notes, treats and most importantly the love they gave back to her throughout her calling.
Sally was preceded in death by her parents, Jesus and Albina Chavez, father and mother-in-law, Pedro and Josepha Alires, brothers Gilbert Chavez, Raymond Chavez, sister Eva Peralta.
Sally is survived by her beloved husband Paul Alires, her cherished children Susan Alires, Edward Alires, Eric Alires and her adored grandchildren Ismael Alires and Enzo Alires, her amazing brothers Eloy Chavez, Orlando Chavez, Joe (Boy) Chavez, Ruben Chavez, and loving sisters Lydia Lopez, Florence Ortega, Isabel Chavez.
Sally was married to her true love, Paul Alires on Saturday September 21, 1974, in Belen, New Mexico. They shared an exceptional, everlasting, unwavering, loving marriage of over 51 years. Their love story was profound, delightful to witness and encouraging to many. Rarely did you see them not holding hands, together in each others arms and giving one another steadfast support. She was actively involved with both her grandchildren, and she kept her children close, supported them and loved them unconditionally. Her unwavering love filled with joy, compassion and generosity over flowed in and out of her home and inspired the lives of her family, friends and many individuals she came into contact with.
Sally loved sharing her time entertaining family and friends in her home filled with warmth, love, food, music, singing, dancing, and wonderful laughter. She loved all holidays, yet Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter were her favorite. These three holidays brought extra special joy to her heart as she decorated her home ceiling to floor with the warmth and significant meaning of each. Not only was her home decorated, she made sure to put on a Christmas hat and would give little adornments for her family and friends to put on once they entered her home.
Sally had an active social life, she loved going to bingo, yelling "Bingo" and telling us how she needed just one number. She loved dressing up, going out dancing to the local New Mexico Spanish bands, several times a month with her husband and long-life friends and family. Watching football with family and friends in her home brough her such joy and she ensured no one left her home with an empty stomach.
Sally's memory will forever be in the hearts and minds of her family, friends and all the many people who had the opportunity to see her loving joy. She will forever be known as a devoted, cherished, loving Wife, Mama, Nani, Sister, Auntie, and Friend. Her joy and fun-loving nature will continue to inspire us all. In our hearts and minds she will live on and we will forever hold dear the remarkable woman who made a lasting impact on us all.
