Sally Ann Blyeth, 95, of
San Leandro, CA, died on March 18, 2026 at Washington Center in San Leandro, following a rapid decline in her health.
Sally was born in
Benton Harbor, MI, on September 25, 1930, to Stewart and Lillian (Cushing) Nye. She graduated from Benton Harbor High School in 1949.
Following marriages to Russell Golladay, Jr., and John "Eddie" Richardson, both of which ended in divorce, Sally moved with her son, Darwin, to
Long Beach, CA, in the late 1950s. There she met and married John Blyeth on April 11, 1958. The family later lived in Oregon before returning to California, and eventually settled again in
Keizer, OR. After John's death in 1996, Sally moved with her daughter and family to
Ramona, CA, then to
Mayville, WI. She later returned to
Salem, OR, and in 2010 made her final move to
San Leandro, CA.
Sally held a number of jobs during her life, retiring from the collections department at Salem Hospital in 1983. She enjoyed many crafts, but found her specialty in counted cross-stitch, which combined her artistic ability with her patience and attention to detail. Her needlework pieces are now treasured by friends and family.
Sally was fiercely independent and an equally fierce friend. If you were her friend, she was your strongest advocate and remained loyal to the end. These qualities were instilled in her children, who demonstrated them throughout Sally's final season of life.
In addition to her husband, John, Sally was preceded in death by her son, Darwin Richardson; her daughter, Peggy Ann Blyeth, who died in infancy; her foster great-grandchild, Londynn Tripke; and her great-grandchild, Callahan Rixen.
She is survived by her son, Craig (Rob Cabrera) of
San Leandro, CA; her daughter, Carlene (Michael) Mann of
Mayville, WI; her grandchildren, Jason (Lisa) Clark of Ormond Beach, FL, Gabriel Clark of Vero Beach, FL, Jillian (Ryan) Corrente of
Mayville, WI, and Delaney (Anthony) Rixen of Lomira, WI; her great-grandchildren, McKinley Timblin, Charles Rixen, Pasquelina, Enzo, Tomaso, Vito Corrente, Timothy Sullivan, Josh Clark, Seth (Allison) Clark of Edgewater, FL, and Devin (Kyle) Hobbs of Alexandria, TN; and her great-great-grandchildren, Colton Clark and Wyatt, Lily, and Westin Hobbs.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of Washington Center in San Leandro, whose kindness, compassion, and professionalism never wavered. Special thanks to Sheila ("Smiley"), Freddy, Pria, and Dr. Young ("Dr. Headlight"). You never gave up. You made a meaningful difference for Sally and her family during a difficult time.
Per Sally's longstanding request, there will be no service. Sally loved cats, so any memorials may be made to the Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter (https://www.alamedaanimalshelter.org). Final arrangements are under the care of Greer Mortuary of Alameda.
