Obituary published on Legacy.com by Schaetter Funeral Home - Comfort on Mar. 27, 2025.
Sally Clogston, 84, of Comfort, passed away in a Kerrville hospital on Saturday, March 22, 2025 surrounded by family.
Sally was born Sally Sue Hancock in Lafayette, Louisiana on April 27, 1940 to James Thomas Hancock, Jr., and Johnny Jeanette Wilson Hancock. She attended Belaire High School in Houston, Texas and graduated from Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri.
Sally is survived by her son Michael Peyton and daughter-in-law Joyce Peyton, her sister Becky Copeland and brother-in-law George Copeland, niece Katie Copeland Wilczock and nephew-in-law Luke Wilczoch.
Sally married Fred Peyton in Texas and gave birth to her beloved only son, Michael Lynn Peyton on July 18, 1962. Sally lived in Houston for many years, working in sales for Coca-Cola. She married Paul Clogston, Jr. on March 25, 1981 and soon after they purchased a home in
Comfort, Texas.
After Paul's death on February 15, 1985, Sally moved into their beloved home in Comfort where she lived until her death.
Sally blossomed in Comfort. She joined the Gaddis United Methodist Church and was active in all of their activities. She also volunteered at the Comfort Library and was one of the founders of the Pass It On resale shop in Comfort. She was in charge of the Pass It On scholarship program which raised more than $760,000 for Comfort graduates during that time. Her happiest days were when she worked side by side with her equally devoted co-workers at the Pass It On.
As her health failed, she spent a lot of time at doctor's offices. Time after time, people at those offices came up to her and thanked Sally for the scholarships that helped make their college education possible.
Sally was considered her niece Katie's "honorary grandmother" and they spent many happy days in Comfort as Katie grew up. Sally could also be found weekly with Andrew Collins when they went for their weekly ice cream fix.
Sally enjoyed participating in the Literary Social Club, the Comfort Heritage Foundation, the Comfort Garden Club, the float-making before the 4th of July celebration, and storytelling at the Community Vacation Bible School.
Sally loved the Comfort community and her many wonderful friends who have been there for her through thick and thin. The family cannot thank each of you enough for the love and support you have shown to Sally through the years.
