On December 19, 2014, Sally Nesmith Maree stepped quietly away from this earthly world and into eternal life with our Lord. A graveside service will be held Monday, December 22, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in Holy Cross Cemetery on James Island directed by J. HENRY STUHR INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL. Sally was born December 23, 1923 in Nesmith, South Carolina, the 5th child of Solon Thomas Nesmith and Rosa Smith Nesmith. Sally married Carroll S. Maree on January 26, 1951. She worked at both West Virginia Pulp and Paper Company and the Charleston Naval Shipyard when she came to Charleston. She was a faithful and devoted wife and mother and a longtime member of Citadel Square Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband of 63 years, Carroll "C.S." Maree; a son, Carroll "Buddy" Sidney Maree, Jr.; a daughter, Nancy Maree Davey and her husband, Jay, of Charleston, SC; two grandchildren, Jennifer Maree Davey of James Island, SC and John R. Davey, II and his wife, Shanda, of Greer, SC; a great grandson, Chase William Davey; three sisters, Hazel Garrison and her husband, Billy, of Richmond, VA, Ann VanDyke and her husband, Don, of Winchester, VA and Tootsie Klaus and her husband, Dick, of Rock Hill, SC; and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Citadel Square Baptist Church, 328 Meeting Street, Charleston, SC 29401.
