Funeral Services for Sally A. Utech, of Morris will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 24, 2025 at Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris. Visitation will be Friday, May 23rd from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Pedersen Funeral Home and will continue at the funeral home Saturday one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Summit Cemetery in Morris.
Sally Ann (Horkey) Utech was born on October 20, 1936 in Heron Lake, Minnesota the daughter of Walter and Cecilia (Jentges) Horkey. She was baptized on November 15, 1936, at Sacred Heart Church in Heron Lake. She grew up in Heron Lake and graduated from Heron Lake High School, Class of 1954.
On February 22, 1955, Sally married Darrell F. Utech. The couple moved to Morris Township and farmed for five years raising chickens, pigs and some cattle. They sold the farm and moved to Morris and Sally began working at Red Owl and Super Valu in 1960 and retired in 2009.
She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Morris, the VFW and Legion Auxiliary in Morris where she served as treasurer for a number of years. She also chaired multiple benefit drives.
Sally enjoyed cooking for and entertaining her family and friends, having coffee with friends, she loved to travel with Darrell before he passed, and doing anything with her grandchildren. She met Pat Swanson in 1988 and they enjoyed many adventures together including gardening, canning and trips to the casino.
Sally died Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at West Wind Village in Morris. She was 88 years old.
Sally is survived by her sister-in-law, Delores Horkey of Morris; nieces and nephews, Debra (Mike) Hennen of Morris, David (Donna) Horkey of Tabor, SD, Deanna (Marty) Mathias of Germantown, MD, Don (Lanette) Horkey of Prior Lake, Tom (Julie) Horkey of Augusta, MI, Mike (Linda) Horkey of Heron Lake, Lori (Larry) Stearns of Harrisburg, SD, Pam (Brad) Schultz of Lindstrom, Janet Utech of Edina, Terry Utech of Hancock, LuAnn Utech of Crosby, Richard (Lenie) Utech of Chugiak, AK, Mitzy (Jack) Murphy of Graceville, Julie (Richard) Utech-Galligan of Shakopee, Darren (Barb) Utech of West Lakeland and Tracy Utech of Apple Valley; sister-in-law, Marlene Utech of Oakdale; grandchildren, Meranda (Drew) Hormann of Starbuck, Stephanie Hennen of Carolina Beach, NC and Kevin Hennen of Morris, MN; great-grandchildren, Sierra Hormann, Winston Hormann; all who called her “Grandma” and many great nieces and great nephews.
She was preceded in death to her heavenly home by her parents, Walter and Cecilia; husband, Darrell Utech (1986), brothers, Leon and Dick Horkey; brother and sister-in-law, Jim (Marlene) Horkey; brothers-in-law, Stanley (Mary Jane) Utech, Larry Utech; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Frank and Luella Utech and close friend, Pat Swanson.
