***UPDATED SERVICE INFORMATION***
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sally Lynn Yost, age 73, of Grayling, MI. Sally was a beloved daughter, wife, sister, aunt, and friend of many. She passed away surrounded by loved ones on November 16, 2023.
Sally was born in St. Louis, MI on October 18, 1950. The family moved to Grayling in 1956. She graduated from Grayling High School with the class of 1968 and attended Alma College, earning a Bachelors Degree in Education in 1972. Sally taught at AuSable Primary/Grayling Elementary until retiring in 2003. After retirement, she continued working as a math consultant, tutor, and volunteer until 2020. Throughout her teaching career, Sally touched the lives of hundreds of children, their families, and her colleagues. She loved unselfishly, always with a smile and kind words for friends and strangers alike. Anywhere she went in the community, she was greeted with enthusiasm and warm hugs.
Sally married the love of her life, Carl Yost, on July 10, 1976 in Grayling, MI. Together they shared a love of nature and its animals, especially the birds and the deer that frequented their yard. Over the years, they were pet parents to a guinea pig and many spoiled dogs that she loved dearly. Sally was a pillar of the Grayling community. She and Carl enjoyed supporting the school district, local businesses, and the historical museum.
Sally had piercing blue eyes full of passion, hope, and love. Anyone who had the pleasure of sharing space with her knew Sally’s rare gift of being completely present with you. Her words of advice were always honest, full of encouragement, and impossible to match. Her electric eyes and spiky hair seemed like an appropriate representation of the joyous energy flowing from her.
One of the greatest gifts to a child is an adult who never really grew up. Sally fit that bill. She was a big kid. She loved hard and played hard. Sally was silly and had an infectious giggle. To many, she was known as Poopsie. Those who were blessed to know Sally learned an invaluable lesson from her: the gift of wondering. Sally’s wisdom was cradled in endless child-like wonder, and a steadfast belief that the world is full of magic.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 47 years, Carl Yost; siblings, Jerry (Helen) Bebow, Emrie Burnside, and Richard “Bo” (Cheryl) Bebow; niece, Kathy DuBois; nephews Randy Burnside, Jim Burnside, and Mike Burnside; and special friends, Cheryl Hatfield, Lori Patterson, and Dawn Price and their families.
Sally is preceded in death by her parents, Emery and Thelma (Giles) Bebow, sister Jayne DuBois, and nephew Brian DuBois.
In accordance with Sally’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of Sally's life will be held on Friday, April 26, 2024 from 1:00 - 3:00 PM at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home.
