Rafael V. Gomez, 89 of Lubbock, passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2023. Viewing and visitation for Mr. Gomez will begin Thursday, February 9, 2023, from 10:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. with a rosary at 6:00p.m. the same evening at Calvillo Funeral Home Chapel-Tahoka. Funeral Mass will begin at 10:00 a.m., Friday, February 10, 2023, at St. Jude Catholic Church with Deacon Pete Paniagua officiating.  All arrangements were made under the direction of Calvillo Funeral Home & Chapel.

 

Rafael was born October 22, 1933, to Jesus Gomez in Jalisco, Mexico. In 1972 he married the love of his life Maria Diaz in Tahoka. Rafael was a hard worker and work in agriculture and as a seasonal ginner for Tahoka Co-op, and a proficient landscaper.  Rafael also owned and operated the Bulldog Room for many years. He loved being around his farm animals and enjoyed having a good time and socializing with his friends and family. His family will always remember how Rafael had the kindest heart, was a giving person and always saw the best in people. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

 

He is preceded in death by his wife Maria Diaz (February 2, 2010); his father Jesus Gomez; two sons, Deacon Francisco Aguilar and Raul Gomez; a grandson Guadalupe Aguilar.

Those left to cherish his memory his son Marcus Wayne Martinez and wife Janie A. Martinez of Lubbock; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren.
