Salvatore Battiato, 86 of Sanford passed away Wednesday July 13, 2022. Funeral services will be held at 2pm Saturday at Rogers Pickard Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Battiato was born in Italy, son of the late Giuseppe Battiato and Grazia Grasso. He was preceded in death by siblings, Carlo, Tina, Elena, Nerina, and Iuzzo. As a youth he boxed for 18 years becoming the champion of Sicily and he served in the Italian Navy. After retiring from Allied Chemical, he worked some at the Civic Center and volunteered at the Breadbasket. He was an avid bowler and met many good friends bowling in leagues through the years.
Mr. Battiato is survived by his daughter, Tina Fish (Adam) of Sanford; son Thomas “Tommy” Battiato (Dana) of Sanford; five grandchildren, Giulia, Amelia, Rylee, Luca, and Nolan.
The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00pm Saturday prior to the funeral service.
Memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
