Salvatore Cambareri

Salvatore Cambareri, a lifelong resident of Syracuse NY, peacefully passed on November 13, 2025. He was born May 25, 1944 in Syracuse, NY to Yolanda and Joseph Cambareri. He graduated from Eastwood High School in 1961. After high school he went on to Idaho, where he studied at Boise State and met his wife, Diana Rae Clyne, and they married in 1964. They returned to Syracuse and had 4 sons, Joseph, Anthony, John, and Edward.
He was a man of many trades, working as a shoeshine boy as a teenager and washing dishes during college. He worked with his grandfather as a carpenter and his father as a plumber. He chauffeured for a time and always had the best stories about the various people he met. He worked as a foreman at Prestolite Corporation and then held multiple jobs with the city and county. He ultimately retired as an inspector from the Bureau of Weights and Measures Onondaga County---a job he loved. In fact, he could talk about weights and scales endlessly and the subtleties of measuring 0.1 grams versus 20 tons.
His passions in life ranged from food to his 11 grandchildren and his face would light up anytime they were in the room. He served as a communicant at St Joseph's Church. He enjoyed travelling, especially to any non-descript town off the beaten path. Travel included Cape Cod, NYC, Adirondacks, Southern states, Washington State, and DC among other places.
He was smart, kind, hardworking, optimistic, adventurous, stubborn, and very detail oriented. He loved his family very much. He is predeceased by his parents and son, Anthony.
Survivors include his wife, Diana; sons, Joseph, John, and Edward; daughters-in-law, Jennifer and Erika; grandchildren, Gabriella, Nicholas, Alessio, Isabella, Anthony, John, Joey, Anthony, Arianna, Michael, and Cade; sister, Frances; and brother, John.
The family would like to thank the 9th floor at Loretto for providing such great care of him over the last 6 years.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, November 20th from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at FARONE & SON, Inc. Funeral Home, 1500 Park Street, Syracuse. The funeral service will be on Friday, November 21st at 12 p.m. at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph's Church, 5600 Genesee St., Camillus.
