Samantha "Sam" Jae Reid, 26, of Sedalia, MO, formerly of Kearney, MO, passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at Bothwell Regional Health Center in Sedalia. She was born on November 26, 1998, in Liberty, MO, the beloved daughter of Darrin J. Reid and Juli J. (Johnston) Reid, who reside in Kearney, MO.
On November 3, 2024, in Knob Noster, MO, Sam was united in marriage to the love of her life, Dustin Slocum, who survives of the home.
Sam was a proud graduate of Kearney High School, Class of 2017. She was a well rounded individual. She was an active member in band and choir as well as a talented athlete. Sam played softball from the early age of four through her high school years. She continued her education at Central Methodist University in Fayette, MO, where she pledged Alpha Gamma Psi Sorority. She worked for Dollar General while attending CMU, where she met Dustin and began a beautiful journey together.
Sam was known for her creativity, kind heart, and contagious smile. A devoted "Swiftie," Sam's love for Taylor Swift's music reflected her joyful spirit and appreciation for life's moments, both big and small. She had a deep love for cooking, music, and her pets.
In addition to her husband and parents, Sam is survived by her sister, Rachel Phillips (Michael), and brother, Alex Reid (Zoie), all of Liberty, MO; her maternal grandmother, Nancy Johnston of Lee's Summit, MO; her "fur babies" Bella, Leo, and Momo; her niece and two nephews; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who loved her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Jay Johnston; paternal grandparents, Stan and Shirley Reid; and her uncle, Brian Reid.
A celebration of Sam's life will be announced by the family at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family in care of Rea Funeral Chapel.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Rea Funeral Chapel, Sedalia, MO.
