Samantha Olarte Slaid, of Lake St. Louis, MO, passed away Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at the age of 21. Beloved daughter of John and Adelfa Olarte Slaid; dear sister of Alexandra Slaid; cherished granddaughter of Stephen (the late Debra) Slaid, Elizabeth (the late Mateo) Olarte; and is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Sam was a compassionate soul and dedicated social worker, who earned her Bachelor of Science with a major in Human Services from Columbia College in Columbia, Missouri. Sam’s passion for helping others was evident in every aspect of her life. She was a devoted companion to her cherished dog, Ace, and beloved gecko, Pudge.
Beyond her commitment to social work, Sam had a deep love for physical fitness and showcased her musical talents as a skilled saxophone and self-taught guitar player. Sam’s musical talents began at a young age when in middle school she composed a jazz tune for the middle school band where every band member took part in this piece which received a standing ovation. Another fond memory is when Sam played the guitar and her sister, Alex, sang Christmas Carols. Though she was reserved, Sam’s wit and humor brought joy to those fortunate enough to know her.
Sam’s loving nature touched the hearts of many, and her absence leaves a void that will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be dearly missed but forever remembered for the warmth and kindness she brought into the lives of those around her.
Memorials may be made in Sam’s name to Donor's Choice.
