Samantha Kelley Thomas, formerly known as Carrie Elizabeth Jean Passmore, passed away on January 2, 2026, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, at the age of 49.
She was born on November 30, 1976, in Jourdanton, Texas, and was raised in San Antonio, Texas. Samantha was the beloved daughter of Sandra Passmore.
Samantha was preceded in death by her mother, Sandra Passmore; her uncles Craig Tingey, who helped raise her, Terry Tingey; and Fred Barnes, her uncle-in-law, who also helped raise her alongside Craig.
She is survived by her loving children: Sebastian “Jay” Alvarez of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Cassandra James of San Antonio, Texas; Macara Kelley Thomas of San Antonio, Texas; and Samuel Kelley Thomas of San Antonio, Texas. She is also survived by her cherished grandson, Christian Alvarez, Jay’s son, of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Samantha had a successful and driven professional career. She worked for USAA for more than ten years in San Antonio, Texas, and Phoenix, Arizona, where she played a key role in leading a call center expansion in Phoenix. She later spent more time with Debt Professionals of America in Dallas, Texas, where she was recognized as a top performer.
She was a member of Celebration Covenant Church, a non-denominational church in Frisco, Texas.
Samantha lived with determination, resilience, and leadership—qualities reflected in words she often shared: “If you are not selling, then you are buying,” and “We are storming, then norming, to hopefully performing.”
She was a formidable figure whose life and passion left a strong, lasting impression on all who knew her.
