My deepest condolences to the family.

Dr. Samella Lewis had a heart of gold. She was a remarkable woman who give this world priceless works of art! To me she will always be an iconic queen of art! I am so fortunate to have met her. She will always be an inspiration in my life. May your soul rest in paradise for you have lived and touched others with your beauty.

My heartfelt condolences are offered to the family, many, many friends, colleagues and devoted army fans of Dr. Samella Lewis. Dr. Samella Lewis was an artist and art historian known for her influential support of fellow Black artists. She was greatly admired by many fellow artists and all those who knew her. She was known as the “Godmother of African-American Art.” May the love and many, many special memories you shared with your devoted loved one show how much your life was touched by her. May the God of comfort bless your grieving hearts with strength, loving kindness and peace as the world copes with the loss of Dr. Samella Lewis. May her collections of art and legacy keep her memory alive forever. Thank you for Dr. Samella Lewis' contribution to the world of Art.

What an incredible artist she was. We pray that God continues to strengthen and comfort the family during this difficult time.

She was a very talented artist. She created the most beautiful work of art. She will be missed for her work as an artist and as a mentor for many. May God help the family to cope during this most trying time.

RIP Samella . Your masterpiece is recognized

I remember her she she lived in Pittsburgh and taught at Plattsburgh State. Her son Alan, was a childhood friend of mine. Years ago, my mom and I visited them in L.A. and I have a portrait of my mom that was done by her.

As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends.
