Sammie Dale Ireland, age 71, a resident of Dawn, Missouri, passed away at the University
Hospital in Columbia, MO Thursday, November 20, 2025.
Sammie was born the son of Sammie Junior and Frances Ann (Cooper) Ireland on March 6,
1954. He is a graduate of the Chillicothe Class of 1972. He continued his education earning his
electrician certification. Airman First Class Sammie D. Ireland, graduated at Lowry AFB, Colo.,
from the U.S. Air Force weapons mechanic course conducted by the Air Training Command.
The airman, who was trained to load and inspect the weapons used in Air Force jet aircraft, was
assigned to Homestead AFB, Fla, for duty with a unit of the Tactical Air Command. Sammie
married the love of his life on September 13, 1974.
From that marriage they were blessed with three children. While farming was instilled in him at a
young age, he sought other employment to support his family. Sammie worked at Marshfield
Homes, Baker Packers, Schwan's, Regel Tools, and even ventured into a business that many
know as the Friendly Tavern.
During Dale's free time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, shooting pool, and all the occasional laughs
brought on with family and friends. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and
American Legion Post 25.
Survivors include three children, Samuel Colby Ireland (Julie) of Sulphur, LA, Amy Ranae
Pickering (Mike) of Braymer, MO, and Brian Junior Ireland (Katie) of Gonzales, LA; siblings,
Patty Hoerr (Russell) of Hale, MO, Beverly McCracken (Terry) of Tina, MO, Susan Ireland (Jim)
of Marana, AZ, and Tom Ireland (Cindy) of Dawn, MO; 6 grandchildren, Cutter Pickering,
Memphis Pickering, Madelyn Ireland, Hannah Ireland, Connor Ireland, and Oliver Ireland.
Sammie was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Brenda Lea Ireland, several aunts,
uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will have graveside services followed by a Celebration of Life at a later date. Burial
will be at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Chillicothe, MO. Online condolences may be made at
