Sam was born on April 5th, 1929, in Fall Creek, Texas, to his mother Dollie Gee Massey and father Sammuel Stetson Massey. He was the oldest of seven children. He graduated from Godley High School. Sam went on to serve in the Air Force, during which time he flew on the B-36 and was a member of the competitive skeet shooting team. After completing his military service, he began his career with the Santa Fe Railroad running the powerhouse in Cleburne, Texas. While continuing to work for the railroad, Sam also spent his life farming. He continued to farm long after retirement and into his 80s until his body wouldn't let him anymore.
Sam married JoAnn Randle and went on to have two children, Steven and Alan.
Sam loved the mountains of Colorado, hunting/fishing, Weimaraner's, telling stories (sometimes tall tales), and anything chocolate.
Sammuel Stetson Massey Jr. was predeceased by his wife JoAnn Randle Massey, and his two sons Steven Massey and Alan Massey. He is survived by his five grandchildren, Dustin Massey, Amanda Shaw, Lauren Massey, Emily Massey, Cindy Massey, and his three great-grandchildren, Lucy Shaw, Charlie Shaw and Stevie Massey.
Visitation will be held at Wiley Funeral Home on October 19, 2024 from 1-3 pm.
