Memorial service for Sammy J. Walsh, 70, of Myrtle Springs is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Monday evening, January 13, 2014, at Allan Fuller Funeral Home Chapel in Wills Point with Mr. Russell Harris and Mr. Doyle Ethridge officiating. He passed away Sunday afternoon, January 5, 2014 at East Texas Medical Center in Athens. Sammy was born July 8, 1943, in Canton, Texas, the son of William Javan Walsh and Lorene Allen Walsh. He was an only child and lived in Myrtle Springs most of his life. Sammy graduated from Myrtle Springs Public School on May 30, 1958 and he went on to graduate from Wills Point High School on May 28, 1963. On May 26, 1966, he graduated from Henderson County Junior College and on July 18, 1969, he completed an Industrial Education Course with the University of Texas. On September 4, 2002, Sammy was ordained as a Minister by the Progressive Universal Life Church. He had been employed by numerous businesses, including R.H. Dedman Hospital for 8 years, Harris Memorial Hospital for 4 ½ years, Terrell State Hospital, Whataburger in Canton and Brookshire's in Wills Point. Sammy was steadfast and strong in keeping his faith in God. Sammy had pre-arranged and donated his body to the UT Southwestern Willed Body Program in Dallas in hope of helping others. He was preceded in death by his parents. Left to cherish his memories is his cousin, Wanda Allen Vanlandingham & husband, Bobby, of Denham Springs, Louisiana and numerous friends.
