Sammye Joan Lebow, known affectionately as Sammye to her friends and family, passed away peacefully due to natural causes on June 21, 2025, at the age of 89 in
Kingsland, Texas. Born on November 9, 1935, in O'Donnell, Texas, she was a daughter to Rex and Mary Marshall, who, along with her beloved husband Floyd Lebow, preceded her in death. Other family members preceding her in death are son Pete Lebow; great granddaughter Mia Tisdel; sisters Nelda, Billie, and Peggy; and brother Rex Marshall Jr. Sammye's life was marked by her unwavering devotion to her family, her enduring faith, and her generous spirit.
Sammye's early years were spent in the close-knit community of Petersburg, Texas, where she attended high school and laid the foundations of her lifelong values of hard work and family. She carried these values throughout her life, most notably during her 20-year tenure as a rural mail carrier in
Kingsland, Texas. Despite the demands of her job, Sammye never missed an opportunity to be involved in her children's education and activities, raising six kids with an abundance of love and attention.
Her family, including her children Vickie Poe (Kenneth), James Lebow (Lois), Kellie Humphries (Mark), Tracye Clark, and Steven Lebow (Shirley), remember her as the cornerstone of their lives. Sammye's siblings, Tommy Marshall (Kay) of Florida and Terry Marshall (Malinda) of Elkhart, Texas, also survive her, along with her cherished grandchildren Randall Robinson, Brittnay Tate, Mandy Ensign, Grady Lebow, Matthew Lebow, Justin Tisdel, Jared Tisdel, Drew Clark, Walker Clark, Melissa Nault, Alexander Lebow, Samuel Lebow, Nora Lebow, Helena Lebow, and 23 great-grandchildren, who will all hold her memory dear.
Sammye's Christian faith was a guiding force in her life, and she was a dedicated member of Buchanan West Baptist Church in Buchanan Dam, Texas. Her love for cooking and playing with her grandkids was only matched by her commitment to her family, which she loved endlessly. Her laughter, generosity, and the warmth of her presence made every family gathering a cherished event.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Kingsland Hills Care Center, especially Rylie Inman, who provided exceptional care and comfort to Sammye in her final days not only as a caregiver to Sammye, but as loving great-granddaughter. They also wish to acknowledge the compassionate care provided by Altus Hospice and Nurse Heather Brown, who offered support and solace to Sammye and her loved ones.
Sammye's legacy is one of love and laughter, a testament to a life well-lived and a family well-loved. Her love was the foundation of our family, and her memory will forever be a guiding light. She will be remembered as a loving, funny, and generous soul, whose impact on those she touched will be felt for generations to come.
