BENBROOK - With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Samuel Eugene Atherton, a cherished husband, father, grandfather and friend. A lifelong resident of Fort Worth, Texas, Sam left this world peacefully, but his legacy of love, faith and unwavering dedication will forever remain in our hearts.
Born and raised in the Nile city area of Fort Worth, Sam was a bright light from an early age. He graduated from Diamond Hill Jarvis High School, where he shone as an all-star quarterback, earning a full football scholarship that reflected his remarkable talent and determination. After college, Sam proudly served four years in the United States Navy, where he continued to inspire as an all-star running back, earning the respect and admiration of his fellow servicemen.
For many years, Sam devoted himself to his work at Texas Electric of Fort Worth, tirelessly providing for his family. His loyalty and dedication were the bedrock of his life, but nothing compared to the love he held for his precious wife, Doris, and their beloved daughters. Sam's heart was a sanctuary of warmth, where laughter, kindness and joy flourished.
A man of profound faith, Sam found solace and strength in his relationship with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. His spirit radiated kindness, thoughtfulness, and generosity, echoing in the lives of everyone he encountered. Sam's love for fishing was matched only by his joy in spending time with neighbors and friends, creating treasured memories filled with laughter and love that will be cherished forever.

He touched countless lives with his gentle nature and unwavering support, leaving behind a legacy that will inspire generations to come. He will be deeply missed, yet lovingly remembered by all whose lives he graced.
Samuel was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Judy Davis and her husband, David; his parents, five brothers and one sister.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Doris; daughters, Linda Jordan and Bettie Pepper; five grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a vast network of extended family and friends, all of whom shared in the blessing of his love and faith.
In the words of Psalm 23:6, "Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever." This verse reflects the peace and assurance that Sam embraced throughout his life.

Sam and Doris were good neighbors and friends with my parents, Mack & Alice Carroll. Often, when I visited my Dad and Mom, Sam was also visiting, he and my Dad would be out on the driveway , looking at the car or the yard, just talking and sharing ideas and stories. I would stop by Sam & Doris' home if I saw one of them outside. I enjoyed visiting with both so much. I let 2 years slip by, and regret that very much. I will keep Sam and Doris in my prayers. The blessings of their daughters will comfort Doris in the weeks and months to come. All my love.
