Samuel Blain Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. - Mooers on Feb. 6, 2025.
Samuel Marquand "Sam" Blain, 74, of the Dubois Road, Champlain, died Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at his home, under the loving care of his family and Hospice of the North Country.
He was born in Plattsburgh, July 7, 1950, the son of Gerald and Marion (Deno) Blain. His life was busy from the beginning, being born onto a dairy farm. He attended Champlain Central High School, graduating in 1969, followed by a year at SUNY Canton.
In 1972, Sam and Allisn were married, and during the next few years added four daughters to their family. He was active in the 4-H Milk Dippers with the girls, helping with their cattle showing and projects. When the girls were in elementary school, he was recruited by Sr. Maryanne to be the 3-6th grade girls' basketball coach for St. Mary's Academy. He was a natural coach, and always made sure that no player was ever left out, and all played in every game regardless of skill level.
As his daughters entered high school, he was elected to two terms on the NCCS School Board. He continued being active in church activities such as the bazaar long after the girls had moved on.
The cow herd was sold in 1996, and Sam tried several jobs until he settled at Schonbek Lighting where he worked until he retired. Retirement was not easy for him due to his health issues, but he worked on carpentry projects, and loved caring for the huge lawns on his home property. We are sure he is now on God's grounds keeping crew! Nothing would make him happier!
Sam was a good, hard-working man who told it like it was in his younger years, but who had mellowed into a supportive Grampy as he aged. He was content with his life, and had no regrets. His greatest accomplishment, in his eyes, were the successes of his children and grandchildren. He was so proud of them! He will be greatly missed by them all.
Sam is survived by his wife of 53 years, Allisn; four daughters, Johanna O'Connor, Samantha Blain, Shana Manor, Jessica Blain-Lewis (Ehren); grandchildren, Ciara Lemieux, Dalyce Manor, Emily Moore, Ethan Moore, Hannah Lewis, and Owen Lewis; sister, Rita (Dan); brother-in-law, Bill Conover; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Brady (Dan); brother-in-law, Gary Lockwood (Joan); and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; his beloved sister, Susan; son-in-law, Jim Manor; and his parents-in-law, Alice and Robert Lockwood.
Our thanks must go to Hospice of the North Country for their never-ending care and support during his long stay in their care, and to the 'family' he had at Hudson Headwaters Medical. We were never left alone in this long journey.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on his birthday, Monday, July 7, 2025, at 11 AM at St. Mary's Church in Champlain.
Arrangements are in the care of the Hamilton Funeral Home, 793 Gilbert Road, Mooers, 518-236-4747.

So sorry to hear of Sam's passing. I worked with Sam at Schonbek. Nicest guy in the world. Always pleasant. He was so nice to chat with. You will be missed Sam.
