On January 20, 2025, the world said goodbye to a beloved figure, Samuel Lee Butcher, fondly known as Samuel or Sam. Born on February 5, 1952, in Weston, WV, Samuel was a man who deeply cherished his family and the simple pleasures of life. His life was a testament to the famous quote by Albert Einstein, "Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better." Samuel found solace and joy in the rugged beauty of the mountains and the tranquility of nature.
Samuel had an adventurous spirit, which was evident in his career choice as a pilot. He spent the majority of his professional life flying helicopters for PHI in Lafayette, LA, before retiring in 2014. Samuel's work took him to various places like Cincinnati, Ohio, and Long Beach, Mississippi before he found his way back home to Weston, West Virginia. Despite his travels, he always held a deep affection for his birthplace, and it was here that he chose to spend his well-earned retirement years. A man of simple pleasures, he spent his free time fishing and camping, basking in the serenity offered by his beloved mountains.
Samuel is survived by his loving family; his sons, Brian and Matthew Butcher, and his mother, Margurette Butcher. He also leaves behind a rich legacy of love, respect, and fond memories for his family and the friends he made along the journey of life. He was preceded in death by his father, Samuel Butcher, his brothers, Robert (Ellen) and Larry Butcher, and his son, Sammy Jr. His absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
In remembering Samuel, we ask that you leave memories and upload photos to his memorial page. Each story, each picture serves as a tribute to a life well-lived and a man dearly loved. Your shares will help keep his spirit alive for the generations to come.

I will always cherish time I had with Sammy. I didn´t live at Jackson Mill long but I remember playing chicken on our swing set and Sammy always beat me. I remember Christmas parties at Aunt Nell´s and Sammy´s whole family would come and we enjoyed eating and spending time together. He was such a down to earth kind of guy.

What a true gift it was to spend some time with Sam and share some great memories of Ron, and the beautiful state of Louisiana.

Growing up in Jackson's Mill we were always going up on our Grandpa Butcher's hill. Swinging on the swing our dad's put there when they were young, exploring and gathering blackberries and nuts. We were a close net gang, we ran the Mill grounds playing our whole childhood...great memories. I will forever miss my cousins Sammy, Bob and Bo. Rest in peace.
