Brother Sammie, as he was affectionately called was born to the late former Doris Robinson and Leslie Carnegie on December 28, 1939. He was second of eight childrenfrom his mother Doris Robinson Carnegie and third of three sons from his father Leslie Carnegie. He attended public schools in Manchester, Jamaica. He migrated to the United States in 1969 and began working for Wallace Men's Store. He completed formal education and began working for the City of Paterson as an auxiliary police officer where he retired with distinction. He was married to the former Ms. Ruby of Manchester, Jamaica. He later married the former Ms. Rose also of Manchester, Jamaica. There were no children born to either of the unions. He will be best remembered for his passion for the game of Cricket. Every available moment he had was devoted to his beloved game. A very tall man he stood tall above the crowd physically but because of his big, generous heart and gentlemanly ways he stood tall above the people in respect and deportment. Though he had a great love for his game his greatest love was for his Savior, Jesus Christ of whom he now awaits to hear His voice call him forth to eternal life at the second coming. He leaves to mourn his lose his brother, Rupert Mendez of Manchester, Jamaica; sisters, Olive Baker of Paterson, NJ, Beverley McKenzie of Manchester, Jamaica, Ivolyn James of Brooklyn, NY and Sonia James of Manchester, Jamaica; a brother, Devon Webster of Manchester, Jamaica; his best friend and companion, Hazel Cossia of Hackensack, NJ; and a host of nephews, nieces, and friends.
